CREATIVE & INTERIOR DESIGN DIRECTION
Laboratory and Community space in Shirahama, WakayamaThis co-creative project in Shirahama, Wakayama, operated by a Japanese technology company, tasked us with concept development, interior design, and styling.
Our goal was to create a versatile space that serves multiple functions: a community gathering area, a laboratory for prototyping, and an exhibition space for co-creation projects.
We chose wood as the primary material to evoke warmth and a handcrafted feel, even within a technology-focused environment. To support a variety of activities, we designed the layout without central obstacles, placing all functions along the sides. We also developed original modular furniture that can be easily reconfigured, allowing chairs and desks to be arranged according to the day’s specific program. One side of the space features a dedicated area with a whiteboard and monitor to facilitate workshops. This section also includes a window with an ocean view, a kitchen, and a cozy spot for resting and socializing. On the opposite side, we created a workspace for engineers to focus on prototype development. Additionally, we designed movable shelves along one wall for both storage and exhibition purposes.
By utilizing this space for various activities, we believe that this project will help foster a local community and encourage the emergence of new businesses.
